Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 13: As country prepares to celebrate 69th anniversary of its independence, caution dots the enthusiasm and patriotism that usually marks the occasion. In the background of prevailing situation in Kashmir for over a month and heightened tension between India and Pakistan, the security agencies are extra cautious this time and alert was sounded few days back when an anonymous letter was received by senior police officers and certain media houses threatened of serial blasts in Jammu during Independence Day celebrations. All entry points of the city have been put under strict surveillance and nakkas within the city and also in the outskirts have been put on highest alert and police are conducting flag marches in a bid to thwart any bid by the anti national forces to vitiate the atmosphere. The security agencies have appealed to the citizens to cooperate in search, checking and frisking. The Army and the security forces also conducted a mock drill the previous day to assess the preparedness of the various wings in case of any contingency. The entire security paraphernalia was activated following hoax call of mysterious movement of armed men around a city school. Since the entire drill was conducted with complete secrecy, panic gripped the people residing in the vicinity till the drill was completed and people got to know that it was mock drill.
Meanwhile, all preparations have been put in place for the main ceremonial function at traditional venue of Mini Stadium Parade, in which contingents of Security forces including BSF, CRPF, J&K Armed Police and also NCC and children from various schools. Dy CM Dr. Nirmal Singh is likely to take salute on the occasion. The children participating in the I-Day function are reverberating with enthusiasm and patriotism and looking forward eagerly for the Day.
