Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 13: People in Kashmir defying the protest calendar has sent the separatists into tizzy and they are trying their best to ensure that shutdown and disturbance prolongs as their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) have asked them to ensure that Kashmir keeps on burning.
Perturbed over the reports that shops have started opening in many uptown areas and public transport has started appearing on the roads, separatists have warned the people who defy the protest of dire consequences.
In a statement a spokesman of Hurriyat Conference led by the hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani said, "People should not become the part of the Indian and its local collaborators game plan to sabotage the ongoing struggle for right to self-determination. Whosoever tries to do so will be treated as a traitor and dealt with accordingly."
The spokesman warned 'some' drivers and traders in uptown Srinagar who he said were defying the joint resistance programmes.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "People have become tired. They have realized that separatists are selling dreams to them. Notion created by separatists that Azadi is forthcoming has proved to be a mere illusion. During the past 38-days youth have been used as canon-fodder and they have been pushed to graveyards."
He said, "Separatists fear backlash and now they are trying to intimidate people by threatening them. They know it very well that the protest calendars being issued by them would find no takers in coming days."
Sources said that separatists have asked their henchmen to ensure that shops don't open in any of the areas and the transporters don't defy the protest call. "Many people have approached the Police with a request to provide them with a security so that they can resume their daily chores," said a source.
He said, "Police recently asked people to get in touch with them in case the miscreants trouble them. Police had made the mobile numbers of their officials public. Police officials received many calls from across Kashmir with people offering all the possible help to restore normalcy in the Valley."
Sources said that Police have received inputs if the people defy the protest calendar issued by the separatists then there is every possibility of militants appearing on the scene and creating fear psychosis. "Pakistan is working on all the fronts to ensure that life in Kashmir remains disturbed and normalcy is not restored. Pakistan is using all its agents in Kashmir to keep the pot boiling," said a source.
He said, "Protests fizzling out in Kashmir have become a cause of concern for the people sitting across the Line of Control and they have passed strict instructions to the separatists to ensure that their plan is not foiled."
"At present security agencies are busy in ensuring that Independence-Day celebrations pass off peacefully. There is every possibility of people defying the protest calendar after August 15 and resuming the daily chores. People have worn out but they are frightened and scared. If they are provided adequate security situation will improve," said a source.
