Another BSF jawan martyred in Pak shelling, 7 injured

POONCH , Nov 21: One Border Security Force (BSF) jawan got killed and seven others were injured in heavy shelling from Pakistan side across LoC in Manjakote area of Rajouri district last night.
According to sources, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling in Manjakote area last night in which four soldiers of Army and three BSF jawans got splinter injuries. Later, one of them, Head Constable Rai Singh, from Kheri Sapala in Haryana succumbed to injuries. Indian side retaliated "befittingly" to the Pak shelling.
A ceremonial function was held today at the campus of Border Security Force (BSF) Sector Head Quarters to pay last homage to brave martyr Head Constable Rai Singh of 163 BSF Bn who laid down his life while on duty at a forward bunker on Line of Control in Tarkundi sector in Rajouri district.
The wreaths were laid by S. Dayal, GOC, Ace of Spades Division and M.J Singh Mann, DIG, BSF. Later the mortal remains of the martyred head constable were air lifted to Jammu to be sent to his native place in Haryana.
Head constable Rai Singh is survived by his wife Sunita Devi and three sons and mother.
There have been repeated Ceasefire violations along International Border and Line of Control resulting in heavy exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistani forces. Troopers and civilians have both been victims of this hostility.
There have also been reports from Poonch of heavy exchange of firing and shelling at about half a dozen places along LoC since today morning. According to the sources the Pakistan troops resorted to heavy firing and shelling at posts in Mendhar and Balakot sector Monday morning. The Indian side retaliated and now exchange of shelling is taking place at about half a dozen places along the LoC.
Sub Divisional Magistrate of Mendhar Thakar Singh has ordered postponement of examinations in schools falling in or close to the area of shelling. Fresh date sheet of exams would be issued later.
