Srinagar, Nov 21: An elderly person died while several others were reportedly injured after a massive fire broke out at congested Malteng area of Dalgate that also left fifteen concrete structures damaged here this morning.
Locals said that the cause of fire could not immediately ascertained however it was presumed that it might broke out due to blast in gas cylinder "we cannot say anything with authority as what to what led to blaze, we heard a bang this morning and when went out to check found thick smolder emanating out of one of the residential houses," Aijaz Ahmad a Buchwara resident told 'Early Times'
Locals said that the devastating blaze engulfed other adjacent houses in a jiffy leaving fifteen among them completely damaged.
"It is quite premature to say as to how much loss done due to blaze, but given the magnitude of blaze and condition of structures it must be in crores, This was intense fire we have ever witnessed, even if the fire tenders reached on time and tried to douse the fire but they could not pass through the narrow lanes," locals claimed.
They said later police also recovered a male body of an elderly person who has been identified as Mohammad Ramzan of same locality.
As the news about the fire broke out people large number of people thronged Buchwara while local volunteers without caring for their life evacuated stranded people including women and children. Witnesses said that women were crying and beating their chest while some were reciting holy verses holy Quran.
"People whose dwellings were gutted have nothing to eat or wear, we appeal the government to ensure some warm clothes bedding and eatables for the victims so that they should not suffer in this bone chilling cold," they said.
The locals appealed the Chief Minister Mehboba Mufti to help the victims on humanitarian basis and make adequate arrangements for their living.
