A Seminar on 'Plant Biotechnology in human Welfare'

Jammu, Nov 21: Department of Botany and Biotechnology organized one day seminar on the theme "Plant Biotechnology in human Welfare" in which three resource persons Prof. BL Koul (Former Principal SPMR College of Commerce) Prof. R. L Matoo, Founder HoD, Department of Bio-Chemistry, SKIMS, Soura Srinagar and Dr. Shri Ram Yadav from Department of Biotechnology IIT Roorkee, Uttranchal, were the resource persons who made their presentation on the topics related to the theme. About 150 students from different colleges viz GDC Ramnagar, GCW Udhampur and the host college along with their faculty attended the seminar. One of the resource person's Dr. Ram Yadav made an elaborated presentation, covering all aspects of the theme and interacted with the students in open house discussion and encouraged the students to choose 'Biotechnology' for studies and research to make career in this field. He also explained as to how the applications of this applied branch of life sciences can be of immense help in mitigating our day to day problems be eat food, security, medicine, healthy life or other industrial processes based on exploitation of life processes. Earlier, the programme began with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries followed by welcome address by the Principal of the College, Prof. SS Bhalwal Principal of the college where in Prof. Bhalwal expressed his gratitude to all the resource persons for their coming to this college and interacting with the students and faculty and motivating them for research as career. Dr. Sumita Abrol, Department of Biotechnology conducted the proceeding of the programme. Prominent among the other who attended the seminar includes Prof. KS Koushal, Principal GCW Udhampur, Dr. Udhey Bhanu, Convener Star College Scheme, Prof. Hans Raj Sharma, Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Prof. Devpriya, Prof. Vishal Sharma,Ms. Dimple Manhas, Usha Rani ,Ms.Asha Rani. Programme concluded with the presentation of formal vote of thanks by Prof. Romesh Kr. Atri HoD Botany of this College.
