Surgeon allegedly demands bribe, patient care suffers

Poonch, Nov 26: The present government in state came to power with the message of change and people of state voted for a change and thus the government was changed but the system still is far behind for a change as believe it or not a 'surgeon' allegedly has demanded entincement from a patient in Government Hospital Poonch.
District hospital Poonch has become the hub of corruption despite a recent death of a pregnant lady due to alleged medico negligence and stirred controversy over poor healthcare in Poonch, yet the doctors, surgeons, specialists even Class IV and asha workers openly are demanding bribe from the patients and their attendants for some favours. Public anger was seen at a hospital in Poonch when the agitated people raised finger of suspicion over the healthcare in the border district. According to the sources, pregnant female Fehmooda visited District Hospital Poonch on October 15 and gave birth to a child (normal delivery) but the gynecologist besides paramedical staff of hospital charged Rs 2200/ from patients husband.
Javid Reshi, the chairman of Insaaf Movement said the Irked over the approach of medical staff the aggrieved called him and narrated his ordeal about the matter. The aggrieved family said the new born expired on the same day, but the Gynecologist accepted bribe from the family, Reshi alleged quoting family members. According to the sources in similar instance one surgeon at DH Poonch also has accepted enticement from a poor patient for conducting a surgery upon a lady. Sources informed Early Times that on November 10, the said surgeon conducted an operation upon Rashida Bi and took bribe of Rs 4000 including Rs 1000 for Anesthetist as fee and also demanded Rs 4000/ as fee of operation.
Attendant of the patient Ajaz though requested the said medico to take 2000/ as he can't afford to pay Rs 4000. When the issue was taken to Medical Superintendent DH Poonch, Dr Mumtaz Bhatti assured that he will take strong action against the corrupt doctors.
