'Board meetings held without vision documents'
11/26/2016 11:29:23 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26: There has been a considerable drop in the achievements of Handicrafts Corporation and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation during the preceding years and current fiscal.
This was revealed during the board meetings held recently under the chairmanship of the minister for Industries and Commerce.
According to sources, the Managing Director, Handicrafts Corporation, presented a rosy picture, saying they have achieved a business turnover of Rs 14.27 crore during 2015-16. But insiders say the claim is far from the truth, as the corporation has failed to achieve the budgeted target.
"This corporation could have achieved much more with the infrastructure available with them," said an insider, wishing not to be named.
He said the corporation has utterly failed to take benefit of the network available across the country, with its sales outlets at various metro cities. "It is a fact that the Handicrafts Corporation could not pick up the Kashmir carpet and shawls for its promotion and also could not help the Kashmir weavers for their up-liftment. There are various scams in this corporation as most of the salesmen posted outside JK have overstayed at one place from five to ten years and are promoting products other than Kashmir made," the insider revealed.
It is to mention here that I. H Drabu was removed as Managing Director of the Handicrafts Corporation. But he got a stay from the court. The Industries and Commerce Department has failed to show a will to get Drabu back to his original position of GM in SICOP.
Meanwhile, sources said the much-hyped board meeting of JKSSID conducted after a period of three years was concluded in just half an hour.
One of the insiders stated that the meeting randomly took the agenda items and finished in no time.
A senior board member also conveyed his surprise about the conduct and manner in which the meeting was held.
The management of this corporation conveyed its achievements for the period 2015-16, which was however found to be dismal. There has been a fall of 40% from the targeted figures.
The corporation has not so far prepared the vision document in reference to the impact of the implementation of GST.
Even the corporation has not prepared the diversification modules in the wake of applicability of GST.
The corporation as such has fallen from the grace, said one of the Kashmir-based industrialists.
Surprisingly one item pertaining to demotion of three managing directors attracted the discussion in the meeting as the management wanted to seek relief for them. This item was placed before the board for their necessary action.
