Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 28: Third additional Munsiff Meyank Gupta today rejected the bail application of an alleged accused in a Rs 2,000 fake currency note case.
Accused Rajiv Sharma, son of Sham Lal Sharma, hails from Arewali Gali, Subash Nagar. According to the police case, Rajiv and one Vasharat Mangotra were apprehended by one Jagdish Raj, who runs a vegetable shop near JDA complex at New Plots.
The duo had allegedly given Jagdish a Rs 2000 note against the purchase of vegetables from him on November 21. On scrutiny, the shopkeeper found the note to be 'fake'. He then allegedly caught hold of both of them and called police. After reaching there, police took their custody and booked them under sections 489-B and 489-C of RPC.
The judge, after hearing the CPO and senior PO, observed that the central government, in order to curb the menace of fake notes and black money, 'has come up with new currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 which are made available only through banks'. The government has also put serious riders for the exchange of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes in banks and other organizations and for withdrawal and deposit of the old notes keeping into consideration the amount of fake currency readily available in the market.
The judge said the police report and CD file 'reveal that though the investigation is still in progress, the source of alleged fake note has not been ascertained by police as both accused have not revealed from whom they have got this note. It is also revealed that the alleged fake note has been sent to FSL for examination and its report is still awaited'.
"Since the investigation is still in progress and there are strong acquisitions against the accused and the co-accused which prima facie shows their involvement in a grave, heinous and serious offence of counterfeiting the currency notes, at this stage, the applicant can't be enlarged on bail," the court said.
With these observations, the court rejected the bail application of the accused.
