Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 28: Patients undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC) and Hospital Jammu had tough time due to prolonged power cuts on Monday and few minor surgeries were reportedly postponed despite availability of Gen sets.
According to information, the power supply was snapped due to technical fault and was not restored till the reports last came in and the matter was taken up with the concerned authority but nothing was done.
However, Principal of IGGDC Jammu Dr Romesh Singh said that he had just come from a meeting and would enquire the matter from the concerned. "We have back up (Gen Sets) if the power supply is snapped due to any reasons, "he claimed. Contesting the claims of the Principal, staff members told Early Times that there was no fuel for running the Gen Sets till 12 PM and when the patients moved to other private clinics, the administration woke up and rushed employees to fetch fuel to run Gen Sets.
"The supply was snapped at around 9 AM in the morning due to a technical fault as a result, pumps meant to fill the overhead tanks could not be filled, triggering water shortage in the IGGDC Jammu, "they claimed adding that the lifts, elevators at new building were not working as they are not linked to power back up. Therefore, many patients were forced to climb stairs with great difficulty. Moreover, the scheduled surgeries were also deferred due to failure of power.
"We are running from pillar to post to get treatment but due to power failure no treatment was being given to patients who visited hospital since morning, "said a patient. The patient also said that the doctors at hospital informed that power supply was snapped around 9 Am and it was not restored till 1 PM. As a result, his surgery was rescheduled.
