Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 28: Trumboo Cement Industries popularly known as "TCI Max" is running its writ by not allowing any workers union in the cement factory and the workers feel helpless by the dictatorship of owners, while as other factories have defined employees unions to address the grievances.
As per sources, in the absence of workers union in TCI Max, the employees get exploited. The workers are made for long hours but not paid accordingly.
The 1000 ton cement factory situated at Khrew has at least 400 employees. "The authorities have signed the agreement with all the workers that If anybody was found involving in unionism, he will be terminated from the service," worker of TCI Max told Early Times, pleading not to be named.
Notably, recently the corporate exploitation by the owners crossed all the limits when they terminated most talented Chemical Engineer. According to the insiders, "Chemical engineer Bilal Ahmed, Manager process department, was terminated without giving any notice, which as per law should be given to every employee before the termination".
"Another worker Jallal-u-din Bhat was also kicked off from the factory. No doubt he had mademistake that he had signed the attendance sheet eventhough he was absent on the said day, but that doesn't mean that he should be terminated from the service," insiders added.
Despite the Trumboo Cement Industries claims that TCI Max has been registered as 'one of the modern cement plants in Asia' by World Cement, a leading journal on cement industry, but exploitation, humiliation and dictatorship remain the basic components of its policy.
"Sometimes we have genuine demands but we are not able to talk freely against the dictatorship of owners. We are sacred of losing our jobs," said some workers. However, at a time when there are at least 6 lakh educated unemployed in J&K, some influential persons are working at two departments, "In TCI Max, An official, who is presently the Sales Manager in Head office is also working in the Public Health Engineering department. He is associated with the Trumboo industries from several years but is also getting the salary from the government department." Early Times was informed by sources.
"It is basic right of every worker that he should have right to form the association for collective bargaining to the employees. If this fundamental law is being violated and the fundamental right of the workers is not respected, this is first violation of the law and then it is very unfortunate," Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami,Communist Party of India (Marxist) Jammu and Kashmir state committee secretary told Early Times.
Meanwhile, Labour Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir, Sarmad Hafeez told early Times that unionism is not necessary. If any worker has any grievance he should file the complaint in labour Commissioner department, and accordingly we take the action."
