Jammu, Nov 28: Continuing its opposition to the 'Center's demonetization move', Congress staged protest rallies across the Jammu region as a part of its nationwide protest called as 'Aakrosh Diwas- Public Outrage Day' to register its protest over the issue of demonetization without adequate preparation resulting into great hardships to the common people.
The main protest was held at Satwari Chowk where hundreds of party activists led by PCC Chief and other senior leaders staged massive protest.
Raising slogans against the Modi led government and its move of demonetization, the protestors holding banner and party flags blocked the national highway. Heavy contingent of the police deployed on the spot foiled their bid to move towards city and detained senior Congress leaders including PCC Chief, N Rigzin Jora, Aijaz Ahmed Khan Vice Presidents Rama Bhalla, G M Saroori-MLA, Haji Abdul Rashid-MLA, General Secretaries Yogesh Sawhney, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh, Surinder Singh Channi, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath, President DCC Jammu Anil Chopra, Mahila Congress President Indu Pawar, PYC President Pranav Shagotra, Vice Chairman Minority Cell, S. Gurdarshan Singh, Secretaries, Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Pawan Raina, Thomas Khokhar Surinder Gupta, Sanjeev Sharma, Abid Kashmiri while holding Aakrosh rally at Satwari chowk.
Meanwhile in a similar occasion Senior Vice President PCC Sham Lal Sharma while addressing huge gathering of protesters at Akhnoor said that the demonetization has broken the backbone of common people particularly the farmers and labour class. 'Farmers are not able to withdraw money for fertilizers and seed which will adversely affect the production of ruby crops, he added.
Former Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand while addressing the party workers at Khour expressed his anguish over the non-availability of Prime Minister in both the houses of Parliament.
The Congress Party activists today held strong protest demonstration at Ramban and blocked highway, Congress workers protest led by former minister and member legislative assembly Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani accused BJP led NDA government on demonetization issue. Congress workers took out a protest rally and then came on the National Highway at bus stand Ramban and disrupted the movement of vehicles for about 45 minutes. They were shouting slogans against BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, protest against Modi Government for its failure to deal with crises erupted after demonetization and corruption by two BJP Ministers in J&K.
Following the pre-declared call of 'Jan Aakrosh' rally the activists of Congress under the leadership of District Congress Committee President Former MLC Subash Gupta staged protest demonstration at Chadwal, on Monday.
During this, the movement of vehicles at National Highway was also remained affected for some time. Subash Gupta while addressing rally said that 'Aakrosh Rally' is not against demonetization nevertheless, it is against the harassment faced by people following the Union government's demonetization move. Recalling the elimination of currency notes of Rupees 500 and Rupees 1000 as nightmare for common people he said that the process is not going to result in eradicating black money however, has created lot of problems for the general public. Activists of Congress party today protested against Modi government for increasing problems of money exchange.
This protest started from main Sunderbani city. Youth leaders of Nowshera constituency Manik Raina alleged Prime Minister Narinder Modi is giving great benefits to business community and giving a loss to poor masses while claiming to take a step against black money.
Meanwhile Police today has to resort to mild lathicharge when activists of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) clashed during anti and pro demonetisation rallies in the outskirts of city here.
Congress leaders led by former Minister Mula Ram this afternoon staged protest demonstration in Raipur Domana area, A BJP hold, against demonetisation as a part of countrywide call given by the opposition parties against note ban.
Shouting anti-BJP and anti-Modi slogans, the Congress activists had a face-off with the senior BJP leaders and workers of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), who were marching in support of demonetisation issue. Both of the groups raised slogans in support of their respective parties, which raked up anger on both the sides leading to a clash.
Police contingent deployed on the spot resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse them. "We had to to use the force as timely action prevented untoward incident," Arun Gupta, SP Rural here said. He said no injury has been reported in the lathicharge while no one has been detained so far in the action.
Congress has condemned the partial role of SHO Kanachak for resorting into unprovoked lathi charge over peaceful procession led by senior Congress leaders Mula Ram, Balwan Singh and Hari Singh Chib. Condemning the action of SHO Kanachak, Congrees party termed it as an assault on democracy The party has demanded appropriate action against the partial role of SHO.
