R&B minister's aide damages water supply, refuses to restore | | | Early Times Report DODA, Mar 30: In a glaring example of political intimidation, a close aide of Minister for Roads and Buildings, has snapped water supply lines of a nearby village for the last ten days, causing gross inconvenience to the residents. Bitta Baig of Doda town, who wears his allegiance with the minister for R&B on his sleeve , got a tender from R&B department to construct a road to Shai from Sikwan village, for only one house and his men on work have thrown boulders down towards the Nallah which have snapped the water supply lines. This water supply scheme caters to the drinking water needs of around 2000 people of Ghat village and adjoining areas, which is just five kilometers from district, headquarter Doda, But for past 10 days, water is not being supplied to the village. The Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majeed Wani when approached refused to stop the work that is likely to benefit his aide alone, caring a little to the difficulties of the 200 families."We are requesting the minister and administration to stop the work and restore the water supply but we are not getting any response. If the water supply is not restored, things can deteriorate as we are totally exhausted of any water reserves," said a villager. He said that even the Sarpanch of the village, who belongs to Congress party, spoke to the minister but got a negative response. Now, people of the village have approached deputy commissioner Doda as well. "If he is not able to address the issue, we will throw the machine down to the Nallah and will not allow work to get underway," another villager said expressing his anguish. He said that even they are thinking boycotting polls if their Issue is not addressed. |
