Intelligence agencies suspect presence of underground tunnel | Kathua terror attack | | BSF refutes 'lowering guard' theory Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Mar 30: Even after two days since the three dreaded Pakistani terrorist unleashed terror in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir killing two civilians and one army personnel, the security agencies working in the field of guarding the borders are still groping in dark. Sources said that the agencies have failed to come up with any concrete theory with regard to lapse on International Border (IB) along Kathua and Hiranagar which paved way for terrorists to successfully carry out terror strike in the area twice in last over little six months. What is different in this fresh terror attack as compared to last year terror attack in the same area is that the security forces this time acted swiftly and prevented heavy loss of human lives and property. As per the details available with "Early Times", BSF responsible for guarding the International Border found no trace or mark of the terrorists. They have, according to sources outrightly rejected the security lapse theory on their part. A senior BSF official on the condition of the anonymity said that the barbed wire fence of International Border is intact which indicates that the terrorists involved in Friday's terror attack did not cross over to Indian side by breaking fencing. "Our jawans are alert and there is no chance of any laxity on our part--- our troops are also well equipped with modern gadgets like thermal imager, Night vision devices and binoculars," said the BSF officer. The BSF officials also refused to comment on Omar Abdullah tweet in which he (Omar) accused BSF of security failure. Meanwhile, intelligence agencies summarizing the Kathua terror attack have now started concentrating on theory of possibility of presence of underground tunnel in the area. The sources informed "Early Times" that there is possibility of presence of underground tunnel in the area with opening point in Pakistan territory and exit point somewhere in Kathua belt. They said that there is apprehension that the tunnel exit point might be opened in a residential house somewhere close to National Highway. Sources further said that these Pakistani terrorists might have explore the hlep of drug peddlers active in border belt. They also said that the terror attack of this magnitude is not possible without the help of militant agents active in the state in the form of sleeper cells and OGW’s Sources said that the attack was carried out in a well planned manner and the preparation for the same might have been started at least three to four months prior to the attack. During the preliminary investigation, it comes to fore that the terrorist had the plan to blow up the arms and ammunition depots inside the 111 Rocket Launcher Artillery Unit, besides to blow up the railway track. "This terror attack is the handiwork of LeT militant outfit and LeT worked in team--- first they (LeT) conducted the recee through over ground sleeper cell and then carried out the attack," said intelligence sources. They said that there is also the apprehension that the militant organization might have opted for the same modus operandi in Kathua terror attack. The sources further added that militant organization like LeT normally did not explore the same terror route until and unless the militant organization is not sure about the 100% success rate on terror front. Sources said that the National Highway is atleast 10 KM away from the International Border and added that after entering into Indian Territory, it is not possible for these terrorists to carry out such attack deep inside the Indian Territory. If going through the details of the outcome of last year September 26 terror attack in the same area, the in-depth BSF inquiry rule out breaking of fence on International Border guarded by them. "After detail examination and thoughtful preview of the area, it come to fore that no terrorist has entered into Indian side through IB fence," read the internal report of BSF. It is pertinent to mention here that in July 2012, the villager of border District Samba of Jammu province noticed underground tunnel while digging his field. After the deduction of underground tunnel, BSF and Army started exploring of this tunnel and found 400 meter tunnel leading to Pakistan, but the security agencies left the digging mid way Pakistan raised objection as the tunnel was heading deep into Pakistan territory as one end of the tunnel was in India's Chillayari BOP located at Chakwal village of Samba District and the other end in Pakistan's Numberiyal BOP. The said tunnel was curved out in a well planned manner and in order to overcome the problem of suffocation, the oxygen supply was also provided inside the tunnel. |
