Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 30: First press conference of Ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP) has created a sense of insecurity among those Muslim leaders who have been working in the party since long.
Within a couple of days after his joining, party has allowed him to address a press conference and condemned Congress candidate from Saharanpur Imran Masood for threatening to chop Narendra Modi into pieces.
It was good that party has asked a Muslim to condemn such uncivilized utterance of Congress candidate but this action of party has created strong resentment among Muslims who have been associated with the party since long. There is feeling among these leaders that party has not recognized their work and give importance to a new entrants. Some Muslim leaders have been working in party since long but BJP leadership has never given them such importance. A Muslim leader working in the party for the last five years and does not want to be come on record, admitted that this action of the party has created resentment among those who have been associated with the party since long.
Credible sources said that a senior BJP leader was instrumental in joining of Farooq Khan into the party. This leader is known for his proximity with police. BJP is planning to project Farooq Khan as a Muslim face of the party at the cost of other Muslim leaders. Resentment is likely to be further grow in the days to come.
Khan, who last tenure as DIG Jammu marked with some controversies, had joined BJP on March 26 in the presence of Narendra Modi. One Congress Minister in the Omar Abduallh Government in a couple of months back had charged Farooq Khan with sabotaging interests of Jammu by playing in the hands of some Kashmir centric leaders.
Khan in his first press conference had charged Congress with indulged into communalizing the politics to mislead and seek the votes of Muslims in particular. He said that whatever Imran Masood said in open against Narendra Modi was not just by chance. It is part of the Congress' strategy to paint BJP and Narendra Modi as anti-Muslims and its leaders have been making such communally motivated provocative statements from time to time.
On the question of joining BJP, Khan stated that as a police officer "I was on duty for country's unity and security of the people of J&K". Now after retirement I wish to serve the motherland with same nationalist ideology and "I found BJP as a true nationalist political party with very clear principles based on the zeal to work for nation and strengthen the social fabric", he said.
