Ignored Budgam refuses to digest hollow slogans | Crave for development | | Shakeel A Khan budgam, Apr 30: Like the authorities this Central Kashmir district did not get any attention from the leaders during the recent election campaign carried out by the mainstream parties for the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat that went to the polls today. Budgam district has failed to get the attention from the state Government and the district is lagging behind on the developmental front. The living conditions in many areas in the district are very poor with them being poorest when compared with the other districts of the state. Road connectivity across the district is poor and the transport facilities are not up to the mark. The supply of drinking water is inadequate and the electricity is often missing. In their election rallies, the mainstream parties more so National Conference and Congress did not utter a single word for the overall development of this Central Kashmir district. Leaders of both these parties took dig at their opponents so as to gain sympathy from the people. The coalition candidate Dr. Farooq Abdullah failed to address the problems of the people of the district during his whole political career. To shift the attention of the people from his failures, he targeted Muftis labeling them as being close to BJP and its leader, Narendra Modi. He forgot that he was part of NDA Government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee with his son Omar Abdullah being the junior Minister of External Affairs and Commerce on separate occasions. "The coalition parties have a compulsion to target the opposition and to hide their failures. This they do as a means to trap the innocent voters of the most backward district of the state since these people have little knowledge about the cheatings," said Showkat Ahmad from Ompora. Showkat said that instead of doing something good and providing some relief to the people, the coalition parties only befool the people while playing the cards of Article 370, strengthening of Panchayati Raj and revocation of AFSPA. A group of residents of Soibugh village while sharing their views with Early Times said the only attraction for the coalition parties in Budgam is the area dominated by members of Shia community. These people said that parties in power cannot afford to displease Agas as their votes are like oxygen for them. "The entire Budgam district has got immense tourism potential since tourist places like Yousmarg, Nilnag, Doodpathri, Drung, Tosa Maidan and Khag lie in this district. But the National Conference led coalition Government has never paid any attention to these places and has failed to project these places as the tourist destinations," said this group of people. |
