Kishtwar, June 25: After detection of Rabies in 23- year- old Ayaiz Ahmed Khan son of Ghulam Rasool Khan resident of Dadpath Kishtwar a week ago, the villagers living around his house have demanded adequate supply of ARV (Anti Rabid Vaccine).
Rabies can spread if the infected person bites. It can be communicated throught he saliva of the infected person.
While talking to "Early Times", the officials of the Health Department said that the department faces shortage of vaccine and added that only after hectic efforts the department managed to get the vaccination from the office of the Director Health Services Jammu.
The health officials said that around 70 people, particularly the friends and the relatives of the infected patients have been vaccinated so far. They said that the villagers are in panic and added that even those people are coming forward for vaccination who had even not visited the house of the patients. Even Chief Medical Officer Kishtwar, Block Medical Officer Chatroo, army doctors and officials of the administration visited the home of the patient and offered every possible help to the family members in controlling the spread of the disease and better care for the infected patient.
Dr. Yaseer Azad, a doctor at District Hospital Kishtwar said that once the virus takes control of the body, it is very difficult for the patient to recover. He said that there is no treatment available for the disease in any part of the world and termed it as a rear disorder case noticed once among the million cases. He said that doctors attending the patient could only try and added that rest is at the mercy of the God. He advised the people not to go close to the patient as this type of patient turns violent and can harm anyone, beside advice the attendant to take all precautionary measures while handling the patient.
Meanwhile the father of the Rabies victim said that his son did not tell him or any of his family members that he was bitten by a dog and instead went to a local medical shop where he took a tetanus shot.
He was shocked to know from SKIMS authorities that there was no treatment for rabies. He said that at home he started Ayarvedic treatment of his son and added that some betterment has been witnessed in the health of his son.
He also takes help of some local witch hunter for treatment of his Rabies infected son. He urged the people and the government to help him to find out the treatment so that his son gets another life.
It is pertinent to mention that J & K state has the population of over 20 lacs dogs and people in almost all parts of the state are facing the menace of dog bites every day as hundreds of patients with dogs bites visited various hospital across the state, but the government of Jammu and Kashmir fails to control the population of the dogs and even fail to carry out the vaccination and sterilization of the dogs as both the municipal corporations Jammu and Srinagar as well as all the municipal committees of the state fails to carry out the process of sterilization due to lack of funds.
