According to a police spokesman, three militants including one wanted district commander of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Hanjan village of Pulwama district. Police officials said that 'on a tip off regarding the presence of armed militants in village Hanjan of Pulwama in the jurisdiction of police station Rajpora on 9/1/2014, Pulwama Police, Army's 44 RR and 182, 183 Battalions of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Police spokesman said that 'militants hiding in the area fired on the joint search party triggering which triggered an encounter which forced security forces to strengthen the cordon and as the night was falling searches were stopped for the night.
