Early Times Report
KATHUA, Nov 17: Following detainment of a lawyer, who had gone to the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Prasanna Ramaswamy here today, several lawyers allegedly abused the 'babu' for his high-handedness and autocracy. However, Ramaswamy, a young IAS cadre official, maintained that he never kept the lawyer in illegal confinement. Trouble started this morning when pursuant upon Ramaswamy's recent order of suspending broadcast of a local TV channel 'City News', Advocate Arvind Gupta went to the former's office to hand over an interim relief order from the High Court. The ADC had recently barred 'City News' from broadcasting poll related campaigns because it had been allegedly found that the channel was giving political coverage to a particularly candidate in Kathua. After the ADC's order the proprietor of the 'City News' had engaged Advocate Arvind Gupta as his counsel, who had been given an interim relief order by the High Court. The High Court had asked the district administration to maintain status-quo and channel be allowed to function till the time case was adjudicated. Consequently, Advocate Gupta went to the office of the ADC today to hand over the copy of High Court's stay order where the ADC allegedly misbehaved with the former and also detained him illegally. After the Advocate called up Kathua SHO on his mobile seeking his help, the ADC's staff allegedly his snatched away his cellphone. The SHO didn't turn up. The news spread like wildfire in Kathua and a swarm of other lawyers descended at the ADC's office. They allegedly abused the ADC and threatened to go on an indefinite stir from tomorrow to protest the official's "autocratic" order. On the other hand ADC's election cell staff also went on a strike protesting alleged misbehavior of the lawyers with the ADC. The ADC when contacted stated that though he had issued a notice to the TV channel, he never misbehaved with the lawyer, who had come to meet him today. |
