srinagar, Feb 3: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, RohitKansal has asked the people living in the avalanche prone areas of Kashmir valley to minimize their movement following inputs that high danger avalanche warning exists in such areas. An official spokesman said that as per the communication received from the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, high danger avalanche warning exists for avalanche prone areas in Bandipora district. The spokesman said that medium danger avalanche warning exists for avalanche prone areas in Baramulla, Kupwara, Uri, Kargil, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Ganderbal districts. "The Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Kulgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Pulwama, Ganderbal and Kargil districts have been asked to issue weather advisory to the people advising them not to venture out of their homes during this period and keep cleaning the snow deposition from roof tops of their houses and bunkers to avoid damages," said the official spokesman while quoting the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir. The official spokesman said that the concerned officers have been asked to inform people to temporarily evacuate the locations under fall line of avalanche and heavy snowfall. He said that it is also enjoined upon all Deputy Commissioners, all concerned Head of Departments and District Superintendents of Police to activate their manpower and machinery and to be in a state of preparedness, so as to minimize disruption of essential services, including road connectivity, health services etc. The Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to take all precautionary measures, so as to avert any untoward incident. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, GanderbalSarmad Hafeez has advised the people living in upper reaches of Ganderbal district including Sonamarg, Sarbal, Nelgraath, Gagangeer, Razin, Naranag and adjoining areas not to venture into slopes of forest and hilly areas of Tehsil Kangan which are avalanche prone areas. The Deputy Commissioner advised all the concerned officers to monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures. Meanwhile, a joint team comprising of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Nisar Ahmad Wani and officers from Police, CRPF and Army visited avalanche prone areas of Dodikuchan, Damhal Hanjipora in the district. The Deputy Commissioner was informed that a group of 10 volunteers have been identified in each such location, who will be given training in rescue operation, besides four shelter centres have been identified where arrangements for stocking of ration and first aid facilities shall be made available in case of any eventuality. The Deputy Commissioner stressed on co-ordination among the concerned departments to enhance preparedness, adding that all available equipments need to be pooled at the shelter centres for their ready use in the wake of any avalanche disaster.
