NC veterans ask Omar to dump his close aide | Rana's trifurcation idea draws flak | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 3: As they say and rightly say so that 'a foolish friend is dangerous than a wise enemy'. The statement of Devender Singh Rana has put his friend and his former boss Omar Abdullah in trouble again with NC demanding Rana's expulsion from the party. Sources privy to this development revealed to Early Times that the statement of Rana in which he advocated division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in three parts, has created ripples within the National Conference camps and veterans are demanding Rana's ouster from the party. Sources added that at the time when the National Conference is recovering from its recent defeat in the assembly elections, the Rana's statement was uncalled for. NC leaders, according to the sources, have informed Omar that people are openly ridiculing Rana and are outraged at his statement. The separatist leaders have also joined chorus. The latest came from Syed Ali Geelani. JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik in a recent statement accused the NC of pursuing divisive agenda. A senior NC leader wishing not to be named termed Rana's statement unfortunate particularly at the time when the party had faced its worst ever defeat in JK's electoral history. "The views expressed by Rana weren't of the NC. His statement could be a spoilsport in somehow managing a face saving within the state. Majority of the NC leaders are outraged Rana'sstatement. It is the high time that our working president Omar Abdullah asks his friends not to put their foot in their mouths. The truth is that the friendship and loyalist approach are marring party's image," the NC leader said. Rana during a press conference on January 31 had stated: "It is imperative to offset the perceived sense of alienation, imbalances and discrimination among different regions and their sub-regions particularly in view of the serious attempts by divisive political elements during the just concluded elections to sow the seeds of polarization and create iron cast compartments on the basis of region and religion." Rana who is also Omar's close aid had claimed that the purpose is not to weaken the authority of the state but to encourage a spirit of federalism, with each region getting equal opportunities of progress and equitable development. |
