| Geelani, Mirwaiz welcome, Malik tight lipped | | Separatists' divided over talks | |

srinagar, Mar 23: Merely five days after the governor NN Vohra on the floor of house hinted the possibility of a dialogue with the separatists, the differences among the camp have come to fore with Malik, Mirwaiz and Geelani speaking in three different tones.
On March 18, when the governor NN Vohra hinted at opening channel of talks with the separatists over the resolution of the pending issues, it made separatist groups to remain tight lipped for some time, unanimously maintaining that they would take a call over any such decision after meeting with their respective party men.
Huriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani day after the offer of talks said he would decide the final strategy in the Advisory council of his amalgam. In a similar fashion, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of other faction of Huriyat called the all party meet. What remained hidden was the strategy of JKLF chairman Yaseen Malik. He remained tight lipped, refusing to comment over the issue of talks and whether his party supports the dialogue or is going to oppose the move.
Two days after, both Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar farooq came out in public, saying they would support the dialogue with GOI. The duo maintained that if talks are aimed at resolution of the pending issues with the sincere efforts then they would support it whole heartedly.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, when the budget was being presented in the legislative assembly, Yasin Malik got up on the stage in one of the remote areas of South Kashmir, picked up the mike in his hand and said :"The euphoria being created about the dialogue process is in actual a mere hoax and aimed at befooling the masses."
This scathing attack of Malik, the former militant commander was not aimed only at thwarting the talks but to ridicule both Geelani and Mirwaiz of supporting the development. Malik in his lecture also trained guns against the talks with GOI, saying "Rhetoric about resumption of talks is merely eyewash and aimed at fulfilling hidden agendas."
What continues to dominate the ground situation, a day after such remarks from JKLF, is that the separatist camp is getting further divided and the open bashings against each other is only acting as a spoilsport in the process that according to several has opened a ray of hope for the perturbed people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Geelani's faction, as per sources has decided to play mute over Malik's remarks and that the amalgam would not dig further while reacting to such a statement.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has decided to make a lengthy speech in the Jamia Masjid of Srinagar oncoming Friday wherein he is scheduled to apprise people about the necessity of the dialogue process for the resolution of the pending issues. Mirwaiz, as per reports, will also counter the allegations over supporting talks and to welcome the offers for same.
Sources said that some of the leaders of Geelani and Mirwaiz's faction have telephoned JKLF chief Yasin Malik, asking him the reason of speaking against the offer of talks. The leaders have also tried hard to take Malik on board but the separatist continues to remain adamant of opposing what according to him would be no more than a 'photo session.' |
