Unequivocal expression to venom against separatists, resistance to Govt 'intent' | Jantar Mantar protest brings in unity among KP organisations | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 4: Protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi by Kashmiri Pandits on Sunday was unique and unprecedented for more than one reason. Resonating and loaded with resistance that got registered with powers that be and made an impact for demands which were made in unequivocal terms. This is what is the impression gathered not only within the community concentrated mostly in Jammu but in Kashmir as well where these voices were aimed to be heard. But more than anything else this protest brought all the organisations of displaced community together which otherwise remain in dispersal with disparate voices. Even as the community members in anger spit venom all through the protest against separatist leaders like Yaseen Mallik and Geelani and demanded their arrest along with what they inscribed on the placards -the killers of the Pandits, the resentment echoed in unison against the state government, hitting out both partners in alliance. The pun and sarcasm was in fact more at the BJP and its leadership by protestors in the heart of national capital making it explicit that the community is fast losing faith in this party in so far as the issue of their resettlement and rehabilitation is concerned. The anger was also over the statements that emanated from certain high level quarters in government that only 15 per cent of the pandits would return to the valley. Notwithstanding the issues agitating KPs raised and the demands they raised afresh, what made this demonstration conspicuous was the show of strength put up perhaps for the first time in New Delhi. Thousands of men and women, youth as well as children and even quite a number of elderly converged at the historic heritage point and demonstrated their anger in unambiguous manner over a host of issues concerning the community. There were only placards that read fuming and heated messages , slogans to convey what they wanted and were they meant these reach. There were leaders from many prominent and actively working organisations of the Kashmiri Pandits who assembled at the protesting site and squatted with commoners, yet , for the first time perhaps, they did not carry the 'identification tag' in terms of the organisations which they represent. Adding to unity was the attire which they wore as a sort of dress code for the occasion -black tee-shirts and black bands on their foreheads while they shouted slogans against the Hurriyat Conference and the separatist leaders. Interestingly, the protestors who converged at Jantar Mantar apart from those associated with organizations had come all the way from places in NCR- both Gurgaon and Noida where a number of KP families have settled after exodus. |
