Demand for punishment to militants responsible for killing of Pandits gains momentum | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 4: The demand for registering cases against the terrorists is gaining momentum with Kashmiri Pandits openly demanding registration of cases against all those terrorists including Bitta Karate, Yasin Malik and others responsible for killing of hundreds members of the community including some prominent persons and KP leaders to force the entire community to leave Kashmir. With KPs demanding the registration of cases against all the terrorists including Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani the demand has gained a momentum as every saner element in the country will like to seek punishment under law for those terrorists who killed the hundreds members of the community to terrorize the minorities in Valley and force them to flee. The displaced Pandits are not alone in this demand but various social, religious and political organizations have also joined hands with them in demanding registration of FIRs against the terrorists and punishing them under law. The Jammu Provincial Peoples Forum, Jammu Kashmir Peoples Forum, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena as well as other organizations have also demanded probe and action against the terrorists as a confidence building measure. Before the KPs protested in the Union Capital on May 3 demanding registration of cases against the terrorists and constitution of Inquiry Commission to probe against the circumstances that led to spread of terrorism in J&K, the Union Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh while speaking at the 25th martyrdom Day function of veteran poet, scholar and freedom fighter Sarwanand Kaul premi who along with his 25 year old son Veer Ji Kaul was kidnapped and assassinated by terrorists on May 1 in 1990 for his only sin that he advocated for secular values and Kashmiriyat in Valley even when the militants were on killing spree and had eliminated hundreds of nationalist people mostly from minority Pandits in Valley. Premi working against all odds was persuading his fellow community members not to leave Valley under the threat of gun as Kashmiri Muslims are our brothers and the two communities have been living together for hundreds of years in complete peace and harmony. Premi's propaganda went against the teachings of terrorists and their mentors within the State and in Pakistan and they decided to eliminate this greatest advocate of Kashmiriyat and silence his voice once for all. As Premi was a secularist to core, his family paid a heavy price for the same as it lost two bread earners and supporters in their prime age. Those claiming to be the champions of the Kashmiriyat failed to give justice to the family by bringing the culprits responsible for their assassination to book even after the 25 years of this heinous crime. The Union Minster was right while speaking at a function in paying tributes to the father son duo who attained martyrdom for the national cause and for ufliftment of the values of Kashmiryat that the probe into the killings be started from Sarwanant Kaul Premi. This demand gained momentum as entire KP community is today demanding the probe into killings and punishment to militants. The ball is in the court of both State and Central ghovernemnt and in case they are interested in building the shaken confidence of the displaced Pandits they are left with no option but to order the probe said KPC president Kundan Kashmiri. |
