Stringent security measures in place as 'Darbar' re-opens in Srinagar | R & B Minister reviews traffic management plan | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, May 4: Authorities have put in place stringent security measures in the summer capital as the offices under the bi-annual Darbar Move are reopening here after getting closed at Jammu in the final week of the last month. In addition to the offices located in the Civil Secretariat here, some of the offices located in the Old Secretariat are also reopening as part of the Darbar Move practice. In addition to the offices of the civil administration some other offices are also reopening after remaining closed for the last 10 days. While Governor Narendra Nath Vohra would assume office at the Raj Bhavan here, Director General of Police, Kondavati Rajendra would resume the working along the other officers here as well. At the same time the Srinagar wing of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court would restart its functioning with the judges being deputed to the Jammu wing on rotation basis.Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is expected to receive guard of honour here at the Civil Secretariat from a contingent of police. He is later on scheduled to address the employees of the Civil Secretariat and if all goes well then he may address a press conference later on at the same venue.The Durbar Move offices had closed at Jammu on April 24 and after remaining closed for 10 days the offices would restart their working on Tuesday. While Kashmir based employees had reached here last week the Jammu based employees reached here on Sunday and today as well. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the accommodation of employees belonging to the Jammu division. These employees would be accommodated in the various government quarters and hotels located in the vicinity of the summer capital. State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) would run a fleet of coaches for carrying the employees to and fro Civil Secretariat.Over the past few days painters and workers could be seen busy in painting the roads, pavements and roads as a process of sprucing up and welcoming the Darbar Move offices to the summer capital. Estimates say that Roads and Buildings (R&B) department has spent around Rs. 70 lakhs on the painting and sprucing up of the various roads, buildings and pavements as part of the Darbar Move preparations.Meanwhile, in order to curb the traffic jamming and streamlining the traffic management system in Srinagar city, the Minister for R&B and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari visited various traffic jamming prone areas of city and took stock of measures taken for smooth ply of traffic. He directed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) authorities for immediate removal of bottlenecks and hurdles so that traffic jamming would be easily curbed.An official spokesman said that Bukhari earlier convened a meeting of officers at Banquet Hall and reviewed the traffic management plan framed by Srinagar Development Authority (SDA). On this occasion, the Minister was apprised by the SDA about traffic management programme through a PowerPoint presentation. Authorities of R&B, Traffic Police and SMC put forth their suggestions regarding curbing traffic jamming and streamlining of traffic in city.The minister visited Batmaloo and directed SMC authorities for removal of the boundary walls of dewatering station so that road is widened. He also visited Bishember Nagar road in Srinagar city and instructed the authorities to take immediate steps for removal of encroachment within days. He visited Dalgate and instructed the Executive Engineer R&B Srinagar for construction of protection Bund on the bank of Dalgate road. |
