BJP national spokesperson contradicts BJP national spokesperson | Double-speak on Article 370 | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 26: BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra has lost moral right to continue to hold the position he holds after another BJP national spokesperson M J Akbar took a line on Article 370 completely different from that of Patra. Only on Sunday, Patra had reassured the nationalist constituency in Jammu & Kashmir that the BJP would abrogate Article 370 in case it got the required numbers in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. "In the future, BJP will work to remove the special status act from Jammu & Kashmir whenever they will have proper numbers of MPs in the Parliament. Article 370 continues to be part of the core ideology of BJP but we don't have enough numbers (two-third majority in Parliament) in Parliament to do away with it now. In the future, when the party would have required numbers, they would work toward its removal," he said while addressing reporters at the party headquarters in Jammu, along with many other party spokespersons, "who", as per insiders, "have been barred from opening their mouth for three to twelve months as the BJP has formed government with the PDP to resolve the Kashmir issue". It is clear that what Patra said in Jammu had not gone down well with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, BJP national president Amit Shah and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, who has been empowered to decide the fate of the state in accordance with the stand of the separatists and communalists in Kashmir. How else should one interpret what M J Akbar said to distance the party from what Patra said just 24 hours ago? Akbar not only distanced the party from the line Patra took in Jammu, but also said that even the Indian Parliament could not discuss Article 370. While responding to a question on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stand on Article 370 in the light of recent statements by some BJP leaders (read Patra) that "it will be abrogated when the party gets two-third majority in the Parliament," Akbar said: "The status quo on Article 370 will be maintained. This is a constitutional matter and any kind of change in it cannot be brought in the Parliament". After what Akbar told media persons in Delhi about Article 370, the BJP stands completely exposed. However, to say this is not to suggest that Patra also meant what he said in Jammu about Article 370. He never meant that. He had only made a desperate attempt to restore the ground the BJP lost after becoming part of the state power structure. The fact of the matter is that the BJP by its actions and statements have proved that it is the most undependable and untrustworthy outfit. |
