| Sawanchak locals protest over water scarcity, block NH | | |

Kathua, May 26 : Agitating over scarcity of drinking water supply, shortage of power supply, residents of Sawanchak alleging shortage of water supply for few days today protested and also blocked the Jammu Pathankot National Highway near Hatli Morh Kathua.
Led by Swarn Singh, a social activist the protestors including children and women demonstrated against PHE (Mech Div) for failing to provide regular water supply to the area. Amid sloganeering against XEn PHE, the protestors demanded early restoration of water supply. While addressing protesters, Swaran Singh said they have not received water supply for few days as water pump got out of order few days ago. They said despite repeated pleas to concerned authorities including XEn no sincere effort has been made in this direction. A protestor Kamaljeet Kour said they are suffering as domestic affairs including food preparation have got affected a lot.
She demanded restoration of water supply and replace water pump with new or repaired one. Another protestor Jasbir Singh said it is relevant to mention here that PHE Mech. Division sends their faulty machinery to Bishnah and Gangyal in private workshops but these after their reinstallation fail to serve the purpose. They alleged that officials at the helms of affairs make easy bucks for using sub standard repair material. Meanwhile Tehslidar Kathua Avtar Singh and senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified protesting locals for early restoration of water supply.
