DD Srinagar least bothered about PM’s initiatives | Refuses to telecast short film on welfare programmes | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 26: Srinagar Doordarshan Kendra is lest bothered about Prime Minister’s welfare programmes and social security initiatives. The station refused to telecast a short film about the launching ceremony of three mega social security schemes here at SKICC, Srinagar. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Dr Najma Heptullah was the Chief Guest on the occasion while as the Finance Minister J&K State Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu was the Guest of Honour. The film contained a audio-visual snap shot of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the three mega social security initiatives namely Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) from Kolkata, which was beamed live into the SKICC auditorium besides the Prime Minister’s address to the nation on the occasion. The 5-minute short film also contained the coverage of the function at SKICC showing the ceremonial lighting of candles by the union Minister for Minorities & Chief Guest on the occasion Nejma Heptulla and State Finanace Minister and Guest of Honour Dr Haseeb A Drabu.
With the kind of huge geographical coverage Doordarshan Srinagar enjoys, the beaming of the short film where dignitaries were speaking about the features and benefits of these social security schemes would have been a motivating factor for the people to rush to bank branches and avail the scheme. It has been learnt that the film maker was ready to pay the telecast fee, but still the commercial section of the Kendra refused to entertain the request for the reasons best known to them. However, the commercial section of the Station has blamed the incharge for not allowing the telecast of the short-film. Why the Doordarshan authorities refused to run the film on its network? The high ups of the Prasar Bharati need to find out the ‘sabotaging’ factor. Remarkably, the authorities at the centre are fast losing control of the station. |
