Announce AIIMS for Jammu within stipulated period: AKRS | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 25: Amar Khastriya Rajput Sabha (AKRS), a premier social and community organization in Jammu province, on Thursday convened a meeting of prominent citizens under president AKRS Narain Singh to review the situation arising out of the written commitment given by two BJP cabinet Ministers on June 18 that a the BJP will obtain from the Government of India a favourable written order on establishment of the AIIMS in Jammu. The meeting was chaired by the president AKRS Narain Singh and was attended by chairman of the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) and president of JKHC Bar Association Abhinav Sharma, several business leaders, student leaders and ACC members such as former Bar president Bhupinder Singh Slathia and Prof Hari Om. During the meeting, everyone commended the agreement between the ACC and the state government and, at the same time, suggested that it was imperative for all the pro-Jammu forces to fan across the region to educate public opinion on the issue so that everyone understood why the neglected Jammu region needed a modern medical institute like All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. Addressing the participants in the meeting, Narain Singh said that Jammu province didn't have a single modern and well-equipped medical College and Hospital and that the people of the region had to go outside the state like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh and Ludhiana for medical treatment. "Establishment of an AIIMS in Jammu was pressing requirement of the neglected people of Jammu province", he added. In his address Chairman AIIMS -Coordination Committee, Abhinav Sharma explained the circumstances under which the AIIMS-CC entered into an agreement with the Cabinet Ministers and reassured that the AIIMS-CC was committed to the Jammu cause and it would see to it that the decision on AIIMS was taken within the stipulated period. "The ACC hopes that the BJP government at the Centre will announce AIIMS for Jammu latest by July 20 as promised in writing by the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and Forest Minister Bali Bhagat," he said, adding that the committee is closely watching the day-to-day developments. Other members also advocated it would be in the interest of the party concerned if they implemented their commitment in letter and in spirit within the stipulated period.
