Weather turns pleasant though sun plays hide, seek in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 26: Weather turned pleasant though sun was playing hide and seek in the Kashmir valley, where mercury remained below normal though there was no rain during the past 36 hours. Flood threat is almost over in the summer capital, Srinagar, as water level in the river Jehlum was receding since last evening though it was slightly above danger mark at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours. However, there is possibility of isolated rain on Monday and scattered rain on Tuesday. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir recorded lowest 4.4 degree minimum temperature which was about seven notches below normal. Pahalgam, the world famous ski resort in south Kashmir, gearing up to play host for yatris, undertaking the pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave, shrine, also witnessed drop in the mercury. Against yesterday 8.4 degrees minimum temperature it was 7.6 degrees, more than two degrees below normal. People continue to wear warm cloths in the capital city, Srinagar, where the minimum and maximum temperatures remained below normal during the past 24 hours. Met spokesman said the maximum temperature in the city was 21.7 degrees, nine notches below normal yesterday while the minimum temperature was 13 degrees, four degrees below normal. He said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 degrees and 17 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir and Kokernag in south Kashmir and Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded five to six degrees below normal minimum temperature. Leh witnessed drop while at Kargil it recorded increase in the minimum temperature. Against 12.7 degrees minimum temperature at Leh yesterday it was 9.7 degrees while at Kargil it was 9.2 degrees against yesterdays 8 degrees, he said. He said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 23 degreess and 11 degrees respectively at Leh during the next 24 hours. At Jammu the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 36 degrees and 27 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. |
