Future of gazetted employees' gloomy, courtesy Finance dept | NC Govt tied up with an insurance company to benefit minister, son | | Sumit Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, June 26: The future of J&K's gazetted employees is in doldrums as the Finance department is yet to submit premium of their health insurance to the company concerned. The revelation came to fore when a senior police officer approached ICICI Lombard GIC Ltd-with which the state government has tied up health insurance policy for all gazetted employees for three years from March 2014-for free medical treatment. Despite paying annual premium of Rs 6811, the officer was shown the door by the insurance company at Bahu Plaza after his son had a fall and got admitted in Swami Dayanand Saraswati Hospital for medical treatment. The hospital had charged him Rs 75000 for the treatment. Earlier, the hospital administration had demanded insurance biometric card for free treatment. The police officer said he was shocked when he was told by the management of the insurance company that biometric card of health issuance was not issued in favour of majority of the government employees as the Finance department did not pay premium to them. The officer had got authority letter from the Security Headquarters of police in which it was mentioned that adhering to government order No:07 FB of 2014, he was regularly paying the health premium from his salary. The government order read, "The state government has tied up the Group Mediclaim Insurance Policy for all gazetted employees on mandatory basis with WS ICICI Lombard GIC Ltd a period of three years commencing from March 27 2014, renewable on yearly basis, for securing a health insurance policy for its gazetted employees on an annual premium of Rs. 60811…since the policy is compulsory in nature, it shall be the personal responsibility and liability of the DDOs to register every gazetted employee under the scheme so that no employee is left out." Meanwhile, a senior officer of the ICICI Lombard, Mr Azhar, told Early Times that the biometric cards were not issued to those employees who did not enroll themselves before March 31. But the police officer, who was shown the door by the company, said he had enrolled with the company much before March 31 deadline. Some gazetted employees told Early Times that government tied up with the insurance company during former National Conference regime to benefit a senior minister and his businessman son. |
