ARTS alleges theatre in Jammu ignored over years | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 26:Association of Rational Theatre Seekers (ARTS), Jammu expressed its anguish and disenchantment over the nonchalance of the government as well as the administrative agencies ignoring the degradation of theatre activities in state, particularly, Jammu region. Addressing media persons, Mushtaq Kak, a national repute theatre director and president ARTS said that over the years, theatre in Jammu has been ignored and neglected by the concerned executing administrative authorities which have overlooked the need for establishing the theatre infrastructure, besides including Jammu into the ambit of certain prestigious central institutions which can boost the activities here. He further said that the prime need of the theatre artists is their fundamental requirement of Abhinav theatre which have been locked since past 5 years leaving the amateur theatre workers of Jammu shelling hefty amounts for other halls to perform theatrical activitv. "Despite getting media reports that centre has released the funds for Abhinav theatre, the local executing bodies including the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages is tug-of-war between themselves over finance disposal hurting the Jammu theatre sentiments. He lamented that J&K government has established a regional centre of the primary theatre institution of India, North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala which provides platform to the aspirant and active theatre doers in Kashmir while in Jammu, not even a nodal office of the same exists that amply points towards deliberate neglect and ignorance to Jammu which is the hotspot of theatre activities in the state. ARTS demanded a regional centre of NZCC be established in Jammu also to give a balanced piece of assistance to both Jammu and Kashmir, said he said. ARTS were also in favour of increasing theatre activities in the region. |
