PK reiterates IDP status demand for exiled Pandits | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 26: Panun Kashmir, the frontline socio-cultural and Political organization of "Internally Displaced" Kashmiri Pandits today reiterated that exiled Pandits from Valley be given internally displaced status. The senior PK leader and vice president of the organisation Ramesh Manwati while addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerla today said that Government of India recognizes that the Hindus of Kashmir have suffered Genocide. He said a permanent return of Hindus is only possible when Government of India addresses 'Return' as an issue of 'Reversal of Genocide' and not as tokenist measures, which only seek a cosmetic redressal of the problem. He demanded that the Government of India should drop the tag of "Migrants" and instead recognizes the expelled Hindus of Kashmir as 'INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS'. Expressing concern over the plight of displaced Pandits he said that Government of India should establish extra-ordinary Constitutional measures and creates effective legal instruments to bring the perpetrators and the collaborators of the genocide of Hindus of Kashmir to justice. Besides ,Government should initiates measures for creation of a Union Territory in the North and East of River Vitasta (Jehlum) in Kashmir Valley with free flow of Indian Constitution, for the sustained and permanent rehabilitation of Kashmiri Hindus - as envisioned in 'Margdarshan' resolution adopted by the exiled Kashmiri Pandit community at a two-day convention in Jammu (J&K) on 28th December 1991, he said. Manwati said return of Kashmiri Hindus to their homeland means return of India in Kashmir. Panun Kashmir, therefore, appealed to all the Patriotic and intellectual forces, including politicians and civil society members, cutting across all barriers, to rise to the occasion to 'Save Kashmiri Pandits to Save Kashmir to Save India'. He said community has been spearheading, globally, the cause of the minority Hindu community ever since being forced into exile - lock stock and barrel from their over 5000 year old ancestral Homeland in Kashmir. Over four lacks of Kashmiri Pandits have been living as refugees in their own country since 1989/'90 following the rise of Islamic terrorism in Kashmir Valley, he added. He said the current forced exodus of the peace-loving community is seventh one in their painful history ever since the advent of Islam in Kashmir valley in 14th century. The ground situation remains as grim as it was a quarter a century earlier when the minority Hindu community was forced into exile virtually at gun point. Anti-India forces continue to rule the roost, he added. He aid over one thousand of Kashmiri Pandits have been brutally massacred, age and sex no bar, individually and in mass massacres like at places including Nadimarg, Wandhama, Gool etc. The selective and barbaric murders of the minority Hindus were engineered to drive out the symbol of religious tolerance and patriotism and Indian-ness from the sacred soil of Kashmir-also known as Sharada-desh-the abode of Goddess Sharada from times immemorial. Some of the provocative slogans* bellowed from the roof tops of Mosques in early nineties included. |
