Ahead of Yatra, 'Lashkar is coming' T-Shirts haunt Srinagar | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 27: With less than a week left for the commencement of Shri Amarnathji Yatra, "Lashkar Is Coming" T-Shirts have surfaced in the volatile downtown here even as the Jammu and Kashmir Police grope for clues about this new terror threat in the trouble-torn Valley. Since yesterday afternoon when fresh spell of street protests erupted at Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta, witnesses said, some masked revelers have been seen wearing "Lashkar Is Coming" stuff. The pictures of these protesters wearing the printed labels of the militant outfit have gone viral on social networking websites. These protesters who again appeared in the area today were heard voicing pro-freedom and pro-militant slogans. A senior official said it was a big concern for the security agencies at a time when the annual Amarnath Ji Yatra is scheduled to commence from July 2. "These T-Shirts are not anything accidental but seems to be a part of some well-planned strategy of the militants… It is a full-fledged computer print," said an official adding that the matter is being investigated. "The color scheme shows that fresh T-Shirts have been printed in name of Lashkar and it's a big concern for us all," he said. These T-shirts are the latest threat after the waving of ISIS flags. For the past around a month, on every Friday protesters wave ISIS flags in Nowhatta, a stronghold of separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who heads Hurriyat Conference-M. Reports reveal that flags were waved even during the protest rallies led by Mirwaiz himself. Interestingly even though the firebrand leader Syed Ali Geelani has publicly condemned the waving of ISIS flags in Kashmir, Mirwaiz has been conspicuous for his silence. Police say till now around dozen youth have been questioned in connection with the waving of ISIS flags but any breakthrough is awaited. Sources have been saying that silence of Mirwaiz is being equally questioned by the security analysts in the Home Department who want the separatist leader to be questioned. The Lashkar T-Shirt is the latest threat at a time when militant activities have been on rise. In the past around a month there have been repeated attacks on mobile communication network while six people have been killed by "unidentified gunmen" in a series of attacks in north Kashmir. One of the attacks on the mobile communication network took place in congested Habba Kadal locality, a mile away from Nowhatta, where waving ISIS flags and wearing of Lashkar T-Shirt has emerged as "a new big threat". Nowhatta residents, however, fear that the masked men resorting to such activities were not locals but pouring in from elsewhere during protests. "We don't know who they are because none of them resembles any local and this we have even conveyed to police," the Nowhatta residents said. A senior police official said they were close to making a breakthrough in the case even as he appealed the Nowhatta residents to cooperate with them.
