As Guv returns file on fresh nominations, uncertainty grips PSC again | Resentment brewing within BJP over a couple of 'unknown' names | | ET Report Jammu, June 27: With Governor NN Vohra having raised queries over the nominations of PDP-BJP alliance government made afresh last week, as the fate of coveted Public Service Commission continues to swing in uncertainty, whispers have grown louder over a couple of names learnt to have been recommended by the BJP as members. Controversies over certain names and their credentials not making them eligible for the highest appointing body forced the government to announce fresh nominations of members including Chairman of the Commission. Sources said while Governor's latest move in raising objections over the credentials of some names has made the standing of both the allies rather awkward not only with Rajbhawan but also in the eyes of general public, there is discomfiture within rank and file of BJP in particular for leadership's choice of at least two members . Sources said the resentment is particularly for the fact that the two members are remotely associated with the BJP and one of the member Prof Posh Charak is learnt to be not even in line with the ideology of the party. On the contrary, notwithstanding the fact that she has remained a renowned academician of Jammu University, her views on political matters have not been consonant with what BJP stands for. Sources said what has further caused disappointment within party is that despite so many intellectuals from various walks of life directly, indirectly associated with the BJP, why did the leadership chose only her while ignoring all others. Sources further said that Prof Charak has been picked out of scores of aspirants for the assignment on the mere credential of proximity with topmost leader of the party and his family. This 'credential' has caused resentment among many aspirants as also leaders of the state unit in particular who look upon the recommendations as 'favouritism and nepotism', something which that needs to be corrected by the central leadership. Unacceptability, if not resentment is also for one member Dr BS Dev, who is quite an unknown name within the party circles and learnt to be still in service. On the other hand Governor NN Vohra is learnt to have raised reservations for certain nominations as a result of which he has returned the file again to government. This is the third time that Governor Vohra has returned the file for not finding credentials commensurate with the prestige and status of the Commission which makes high level appointments against senior posts for different departments. First he put his foot down and straightway rejected the nominations which erstwhile Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress government had desired to be cleared through him and infact entire list of names so sent by the formed government in November last year was rejected. Later when the incumbent government sent its nominations in March this year, controversies erupted first over most of the names as quite ineligible following which a fresh list was finalised by the government. When the nominations were snet back, the government came up with one more list of names which too is learnt to have been disapproved by the Governor. |
