Security on high alert ahead of Amarnath pilgrimage | Shut down calls in Srinagar remain biggest worry | | Early Times Report JAMMU/ Srinagar, June 27: With less than one week to go for the start of annual Amarnath Yatra from July 2 the security agencies are in a state of high alert to ensure event free yatra this year. The alliance govt headed by Mufti Mohd Sayeed would be facing the biggest challenge of striking a balance between the different stakeholders during the yatra period. Any untoward incident may trigger unrest in both the regions as already the alliance govt has been struggling to contain public anger over variety of issues. Apart from ensuring fool proof security arrangements across base camps, resting places, and community kitchens the security forces would be facing the biggest challenge of maintaining peace across Kashmir valley. With two back to back incidents of police atrocities in Kashmir university and on worshipers after the Friday prayers anger is brewing against the harsh response of the belt force. On Saturday too parts of Srinagar witnessed complete bandh against the alleged police action in Jamia Masjid area and on students of Kashmir university. The tourists camping in the valley faced hardships due to inadequate transport services and shutdown of market places. The state govt has worked out comprehensive deployment plan across the entire route of the yatra. Army, CRPF, state police and others have been roped in to ensure fool proof security of the pilgrims, official sources said. |
