Biryani diplomacy : Pakistan envoy invites separatists to Iftar dinner | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, June 27: Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit has sent invitations to all the Kashmiri separatist leaders for Iftar dinner being held at Pakistan embassy on 4th July. According to details available with Early Times, all Kashmiri separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Miwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Shabir Ahmad Shah have been invited to the dinner which is being held every year for the separatist leaders. A middle rung separatist leader who received the invitation from the Pakistan High Commissioner today said that most of the leaders have received the invitations. He said that it is a customary invitation which Pakistan has kept since long and there was no harm in it. " "Every year Pakistan High commission in New Delhi invites separatist leaders to iftaar dinner. As of now it is tradition and India must not feel offended," he said, claiming such functions help in normalizing the relations between Indo-Pak countries. Pertinently, India called off foreign level talks with Pakistan after its High commissioner to India Abdul Basit invited separatist leaders for deliberations ahead of the proposed talks and visit of foreign secretary to Pakistan. Now at a time when the Indo-Pak countries have closed down the channels of dialogue, it is interesting to see whether India will allow Kashmiri separatist leaders to attend the function being held on 4th of July (Saturday).
