Early Times Report

Jammu, June 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure safe and secure Amarnath yatra for the pilgrims coming from different parts of the country.
"Elaborate security arrangements have been kept in place to ensure safe and secure Amarnath yatra for the pilgrims," Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Kathua range, Ashkoor Wani said.
A total of 16 companies of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been deployed for providing security to the pilgrims who will be undertaking the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath situated in South Kashmir Himalayas, he said.
Police has also activated a control room at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp which would provide round the clock security to the pilgrims coming from different parts of the country.
"Proper security arrangements have been kept in place from Lakhanpur to Jammu to ensure hassle-free yatra. Security would be provided at the langars and to pilgrim vehicles," Wani said.
The DIG said that the inflow of the pilgrims to the base camp in Jammu would start in next one or two days.
The annual Amarnath yatra to the cave shrine of Lord Shiva would start from July 2 in which lakhs of pilgrims from different parts of the country are expected to participate.
The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has urged the pilgrims to proceed on yatra only after proper registration for which several counters have been opened across the country.
From this year, the SASB has also placed a ban on the sale, distribution and consumption of cold drinks, fried and junk food enroute the cave shrine.
Meanwhile, the civil defence organisation conducted a mock drill at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp so as to train people to be ready to face any emergency.
"The mock drill was meant to train our volunteers and other people to be ready to face any emergency situation", an officer of the civil defence organisation said.
