Yatra 2015: a litmus test for JK Govt | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 29: The annual Amarnath Yatra which is to commence on July 2 has put the security grid across Kashmir on high alert with the helmsmen on tenterhooks across the region. Sources revealed that this year's yatra is being considered as a litmus test for the present coalition government with the recent attack of militants in restive Sopore area enough to send shockwaves across the dispensation. Reports informed that this year, extra security arrangements have been put in place for the Annual Amarnath Yatra with the high level meeting of the union home ministry officials with the state authorities being conducted on frequent basis. Sources divulged that after the BJP and PDP formed coalition government in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the security grid here has received several inputs about the possible increase in the militant activities to make the stability of the Himaliyan region more chaotic and turbulent. The Pro-Pakistan separatist leader in the recent past, all of a sudden had pitched for restricting the period of Yatra with the counter arguments being made from the office of the Prime Minister that such statements coming out from the separatists' desk are uncalled for. Sources said that after the statement about the Annual Amarnath Yatra was made by the Huriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani, security establishment was asked to remain on tenterhooks so that any attempt being made to disturb the religious pilgrimage is foiled sans any delay. The federal government is also making extra security arrangements as this year's yatra is being held for the first after the new government of BJP-PDP coalition assumed office in the Jammu and Kashmir state. Experts are of the opinion that if any unfortunate or untoward incident takes place ahead or during the Yatra, it could directly have an impact on the coalition government with the BJP expectantly being cornered outside the state. "The reason why extra arrangements are being made this year are simple. The BJP at New Delhi doesn't want to leave even a single lacuna and if it does, it is well aware about the repercussions," sources said. |
