Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 29 : The son of veteran Congress leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar, Irshad Rasool Kar joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) here today. A prominent political leader and social activist from North Kashmir's Sopore Township of Baramulla district, Kar joined People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the residence of the party president and Member Parliament (MP) Mehbooba Mufti here. Due to the difference in their ideology, Irshad Rasool Kar fought an Assembly election 2015 as an independent candidate despite the fact that his father was a stalwart leader of Congress party in J&K, but that didn’t work with him. However his father senior Kar served as a minister in the state government from 1965 to 1971 and 1972 to 1975. He was nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha in 1984 and elected to the Lok Sabha from North Kashmir Baramulla constituency in 1996. Son of former Congress president, Ghulam Rasool Kar, had turned his Kamraz Foundation, a social front into a political front and contested an election from Sopore to work for the development of Sopore. It is learnt that Kamraz Foundation worked on social front and Kar had felt that they were not doing enough for Sopore as it had been ignored. Finally he had decided to join political front and fought elections from Sopore constituency to solve their day to day problems,” said close aide of Kar. Irshad Kar, son of a veteran congress leader and noted Parliamentarian, Ghulam Rasool Kar, hails from Townhall Sopore town in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Kar a 10+2 of 1989 batch from Jammu and Kashmir board of School Education had made up his mind to join the PDP. "PDP provides an effective and viable platform to render such services. The leadership of (Chief Minister) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his political ideology is a combine that inspires upcoming political activists to change fate of the state from bad to better," said Kar. However the party spokesman said that Kar maintained it was his desire to use his family influence and personal potential for positive change in Sopore and beyond. His father Ghulam Rasool Kar served as a minister in the state government and was Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President. Welcoming the move, Mehbooba said that dynamic political activists like Irshad should strengthen political institutions of consequence. "Potential of such activists can rightly be channelized in an adequate manner for public good. However, this is possible only in a conducive atmosphere for change which PDP is striving for," Mehbooba said. Kar also said that he was craving for an opportunity to work under the PDP banner since long as it is the party which has a road map and a committed cadre to shape the state's future. He offered his services and support to the people and the party pledging that he will work overtime to accomplish PDP agenda and his personal dreams as humble political worker, the party spokesman said. Meanwhile two party general secretaries Nizamudin Bhat and Rafi Ahmad Mir, Chief Coordinator and president for Baramulla Raja Ajaz, another PDP leader from Sopore Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and dozens of hardcore supporters of Irshad Kar were present on the occasion. |
