Early Times Report
VIJAYPUR, June 30: Contrary to tall claims of the government to ensure proper upkeep of the infrastructure, a building constructed by Irrigation Department in village Mahal Shah in Tehsil Ramgarh of District Samba is in shambles thanks to the callous attitude of the authorities concerned.
The irresponsible attitude of the Irrigation Department officials could be gauged from the fact that some people with vested interested are misusing the premises since they have tied their cattle in the building as if it is their personal property.
While the government property is being mis-utilized openly, the department is turning a blind eye over what is happening around.
The condition of the ramshackle building presented a shabby look as all the doors and windows have broken while the roof as well as the walls has developed cracks.
The local residents told Early Times that they have lodged the complaint before the concerned officials of the Irrigation Department but they do not take any action in this regard.
The farmers and local residents of village Mahal Shah further told that the condition of canal is also a cause of major concern as the canal is blocked due to the silt and bushes. The Irrigation department has not cleared the canal due to which the water cannot reach their fields adding that it is depriving them off from the water needed for irrigation purposes.
The farmers told that the paddy crops season is fast approaching but there is no water in the canal and due to this reason they are facing acute problem to prepare their field for sowing the paddy crops. They alleged that though the department takes irrigation charges (Abbana) but it failed to provide proper facility of irrigation water.
The farmers urged the Minister for Irrigation Department to issue the directions to the concerned authorities to take legal action against the vested interested persons who are misusing the government property and also take action against the delinquent officials who are not paying attention to it
They further urged the Minister to issue instructions to clear the blockage from the canal so that the irrigation water could reach their fields in time.
