Establishment of Club at JDA Housing Colony snowballs into controversy | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 30: The conversion of community hall at JDA Housing Colony Roop Nagar into a Club by the authorities has snowballed into a controversy with the residents totally opposing the same. The Roop Nagar Housing Colony Residents Welfare has come on streets to protest against the proposal of JDA and warned to intensify agitation in case the authorities will go ahead with the decision. They said establishment of Club will add to public nuisance in the area and have a negative effect on the residents. As the proposal is under active consideration of the authorities, the residents of the area held various demonstrations in the area. First it was the protest launched by the residents which was joined by men, women and children who vociferously protested against the proposed move. The protest was held under the banner of Roop Nagar Residents Welfare Association led by its president Mulkh Raj Sharma. This was followed by a strong demonstration by women under the banner of the Association few days back who too protested against the move and warned to launch a decisive battle in case the authorities go ahead to give practical shape to the proposed move at the behest of some vested interests. They said previously when the Association objected against the decision the then VC JDA agreed to scuttle the move in view of the side ranging opposition by local people. To respect the sentiments of the inhabitants of the area the then VC had agreed not to go ahead with the move and instead gave instructions that the community hall should continue to function. However the another group of the people which favours setting up of the Club has termed the opposition by some people useless. They said in the modern times the clubs are a necessity which identifies people with changing times. They said the people opposing the establishment of club are living in medieval period and were opposed to progressive times. However this contention is outrightly rejected by the Association members saying establishment ofclubs has not been in Hindu culture and civilization. They have warned to launch a decisive battle if the Government goes ahead with the proposal. In an appeal to Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh they sought his immediate intervention in the matter. |
