Tuesday tremor brings back memories of 2005 quake | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 30: A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook the Kashmir valley in the early hours of Tuesday with the people panic stricken leaving their homes. Reports informed that a moderate intensity earthquake occurred at 3:40 am on Tuesday and that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.5 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was in Hindukush mountain range of Afghanistan. The tremors were felt when Muslims had just finished the Sehri (pre-dawn meal) to begin the day's fast on the 12th day of the holy month of Ramadan. No loss of life or property was reported. The earthquake of Tuesday brought back of memories of the devastating earthquake in which more than 75,000 people died and it was measured 7.8 magnitude at the rector scale on 3rd day of Ramazan (October 8, 2005). |
