| Dulat's revelations have rattled separatists | | On back foot | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5: Former RAW chief AS Dulat's book "Kashmir: The Vajpayee years, has put many Kashmiri separatists on the mat. The book has exposed them and virtually suggested that they are no more than mercenaries busy in playing dirty games, getting favours, enjoying government's hospitality, minting money, promoting the interests of their wards and exploiting religious feelings of the majority community in J&K.
The book has exposed the timidity and dual approach of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, saying he is mortally afraid of Pakistan and not really committed to the Kashmiri cause. Dulat has said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq "lacks political courage". "He is scared he could be killed, and scared of the ISI and Pakistan." "He has a great future. He has a constituency. (But) because of the fact he has been under threat…his father was killed. His uncle was killed. His family has great concern for him. Pakistanis are holding his career back. I told my friends in Pakistan that you are doing great disservice to Mirwaiz. He fears for his life and fears Pakistan. But he has ambition. Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was one such leader who could be roped into the mainstream. But he is a scared person and fears for his life," Dulat has he said in his book. The perturbed Mirwaiz has been making desperate attempts to dispel the impression Dulat has created about him. "We out-rightly reject Dulat's contentions," Hurriyat said in a statement, reacting to Dulat's contentions.
PoK-based Hizbul Mujahideen of Salahuddin has also reacted very sharply and termed the revelations made by Dulat as trash and ill-motivated. Terming Dulat's claim as a "Himalayan lie", Hizbul Mujahideen said Salahuddin had no contact with any intelligence agency and his son got a seat on the basis of merit. "The claim by Dulat that Salahuddin contacted an intelligence official to get his son a medical seat is a lie as big as the Himalayas. There is no truth in the claim. The remarks are unfounded and made with an intention to create doubts in the minds of the people with regard to the freedom struggle," Hizb spokesperson Saleem Hashmi has said in a statement. Dulat in his book has said that "in early 1990s, self-styled Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin had called local Intelligence Bureau chief K M Singh and sought his help in securing a medical seat for his son. Singh approached (Farooq) Abdullah, who was the Chief Minister, and the work was done," Dulat said, adding these favours "are extended always with a hope that they would be converted into a surrender of the militants".
"Dulat has written a book based on absolute lies. By doing this he has once again tried to utilize his professional skills to create confusion and chaos," Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar has said in a statement today. He termed as "ridiculous and blatant lie that PDP is the creation of Geelani Sahib and Mufti Sayeed". "PDP is not the creation of Geelani Sahib but it was set up by Indian secret agencies. Hurriyat has got this information from reliable sources that the decision regarding creation of this party was taken at the residence of a top IB officer," the spokesperson of the Geelani faction said.
Dulat has also exposed ex-militant Firdous Syed. "There was one Firdous Syed. He came over ground. He was very close to Shabir Shah. After he came over ground, he came to New Delhi, met two Home Ministers, first SB Chawan, and then Inderjit Gupta. He asked now what for us. He said: 'Mai to ab kahinka bi nahiraha'… He wanted accommodation in political system. I went to Farooq Abdullah and told him that he belongs to NC family. He was then accommodated as MLC". Firdous Syed has not reacted so far. Now that Dulat has thoroughly exposed Mirwaiz, Geelani Salahuddin, Syed and others of their ilk, it is time for the common Kashmiris to isolate them and show them their rightful place. They must remember that these mercenaries are living like maharajas at the cost of their blood, sweat and sufferings. They are not their friends and nor are they freedom fighters. They represent their own vested interest and play dubious games only to further their own selfish interests. |
