JAMMU, July 5: After allowing its ally in the Valley to consolidate its hold over the Civil Secretariat, State Cabinet and Council of Ministers, it helped its ally to also manipulate the top job in the crucial J&K Public Service Commission. Sources reveal that the State Governor NN Vohra has finally cleared the file and sent it to the Chief Secretary to the Government for further action. Sources reveal that Latief-ul-Zaman Deva will be the Chairman of the J&KPSC and Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, JP Singh, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Suresh Sharma, Posh Charak, Lal Chand, Asgar Ali Choudhary and Tashi Dorjey will be its members, most of them are significantly unknown. These are, it appears, purely political appointments.
It will be after nine months that J&K PSC will become functional. The appointments couldn't be made because the State Governor returned the file thrice and rejected a panel proposed by the NC-Congress regime for filling up the vacancies. He also rejected the names which the PDP-BJP coalition government suggested immediately after assuming power.
The BJP has once again failed the people of Jammu region. They had expected that their vote for the BJP would lead to their empowerment and ensure equal representation of Jammu region with Kashmir at all levels, but what has been happening since the formation of the coalition government is to the contrary. Instead of asserting its position and authority and instead of fighting for the cause, the BJP, like the Congress, has been dancing to the tunes of its Kashmiri masters and commending its own and the coalition government's performance. Only the other day, the BJP decided to hold programmes to highlight the achievements of the BJP Ministers.
Which achievements the BJP will highlight? There is nothing on the horizon which could even remotely suggest that the BJP did anything to honour the mandate it got from Jammu region. On the contrary, there are instances and instances which serve to prove that the BJP has subverted the mandate and further jeopardized the rights and interests of the people of Jammu region. The fact of the matter is that it is abusing the mandate and rubbing salt into the wounds of the people of Jammu region. That the BJP has nothing to boast of could be seen from the fact that a not a single spokesperson of the party from Jammu region has spoken for weeks now. |
