ERA organizes workshop on 'Improved Health and Hygiene' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5 : Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) today organized a workshop cum public awareness campaign on Improved Health and Hygiene here at Gangyal. According to press release, ERA project Manager Shakti Sagar said that the main aim to organize the event to promote the benefits of improved drainage infrastructure which is part of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Jammu and Kashmir Urban Sector Development Investment Program (JKUSDIP). The objective was to spread awareness among the households about links between the maintenance of storm water drains and personal/community level hygiene and health. Meanwhile, he briefed about the process, need and benefits of the storm water drainage subproject taken up by ERA. He shared that four main drains namely Gangyal, Ashram, Thangar and Digiana will be taken up for rehabilitation and construction by ERA. Sagar shared the approximate time line and other details regarding the project with the community. He further appealed to the community not to dump household waste, construction debris into the drains. Meera Mathur, a representative of Management Consultants while interacting especially with the women members of the community focused on best sanitation practices, the ill effects of solid waste dumping in the drains. The community representatives especially women voiced for placing of community dustbin in their locality which shall reduce the incidences of dumping of household waste in the drains. |
