Jammu reeling against severe power crisis | Protest held in front of BJP leader's house | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5: Jammu is reeling under severe power crisis for over last one month with Government totally sleeping over the issue. The Modi Government's slogan of Achay Din Aagayay Hain has turned a hoax for Jammuites who are experiencingworst ever power crisis this Summer. Notwithstanding the claims of the authorities that they have sufficient supply of power to cater to the demand of the people, the rural belt in Jammu is facing about 12 hour power cut, low voltage, voltage fluctuation and intermittent voltage for one month now. There is a brewing resentment against PDD as well as BJP which has failed to keep its promise made during the elections. The people while criticizing the BJP said that when the Party was out of power its activists were taking out processions and demonstrations in the city and other parts of the Jammu region against power crisis in past but after coming to power the Party activists have gone into hibernation as they can't open mouth against their partywhen the power portfolio is also being looked after by Deputy Chief Minister who belongs to party. The authorities claims that the State has sufficient power to supply has also turned out to be a false propaganda as had it been so then there would have not been power cuts for 10 to 12 hours. Not only in un-metered localities but in metered localities also people reel under power crisis as they have to face the power cuts and low voltage problem said Ramesh Kumar a social activist from Marh Gajansoo. He said the rural Jammu including Marh -Raipur Damana, R S Pura, Bishnah, Akhnoor, Samba, Purmandal, Nagrota, Ramgarh, Ramnagar, Bani, Basholi and Billawar are worst hit by power crisis but the authorities fail to solve the problem. The main reason for the power crisis in Summer according to sources in PDD is that the poor infrastructure and weak machinery which can't resist the scorching heat of Summer and gets melted. This results into a grave problem and the officials on duty are left with no alternative but to curtail the power supply for some hours to some localities to save the machinery in receiving stations and sub stations from being burnt or damaged. The main reason for this is purchase of substandard material wiring and machinery by the PDD at the cost of State exchequer and the Government failed have a control over the same, sources added. Sources said the problem has surfaced every Summer in Jammu but the authorities never bothered to stem the rot but only took it as a casual affair and with the passage of time the crisis have deepened. The situation has taken such a critical turn that yesterday some protestors held a demonstration in front of a BJP leader's house at Muthi against the power crisis and increasing power cuts. The BJP leader tried to contact the local MLA to narrate the tale of woes to him on phone but he did not respond as the MLA who is also holding the portfolios of Forest and Social Welfare Ministry is enjoying the cool breeze in his home town Kishtwar leaving the people of his constituency to reel under power crisis in this scorching heat. The position has now become so awkward for BJP activists in Marh, Raipur Damana, Akhnoor and other localities that despite the Party being in the Government its activists have decided to come to streets and protest against its own government for its failure to improve power supply in Jammu. |
