Gurdaspur strike, Kalam death may defer AIIMS announcement | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 28: The Gurdaspur terror strike and death of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is likely to defer the final announcement of AIIMS for Jammu region. The three day long Jammu bandh call may not yield immediate results as the central leadership is occupied with lot of work and may not spare time to sit together to deliberate on the issue of AIIMS. If top sources in the BJP are to be believed the final announcement over the issue of AIIMS may get delayed in the wake of sudden developments amid ongoing stormy Monsoon session of the Parliament. It is expected that the centre may take a call on the contentious issue on the eve of Independence day celebrations. After missing the Eid deadline the much hyped package for the state of Jammu and Kashmir may also see the light of the day during I-day celebrations. A senior party leader privy to developments in the BJP camp claimed the much awaited high level deliberations between the top brass of BJP was yet to take place ahead of taking any final decision. On the other hand the state BJP leaders have been giving feedback to the central leadership on regular basis over the support base commanded by the newly formed AIIMS coordination committee. It is in this context the state BJP leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh have shied away from fixing any time line for the final announcement and trying to pacify the agitated members of the coordination committee to suspend the agitation as the decision to set up AIIMS in Jammu has been okayed in principle and the delay is being caused in the absence of finalization of other formalities. |
