| BJP responsible for ongoing movement in Jammu | | AIIMS Row | | ET Report
jammu, July 28: The "ungrateful" BJP is squarely responsible for the ongoing mass movement in Jammu region over the issue of AIIMS. It has subverted the Jammu's popular mandate and is playing with fire. No one in Jammu would ever trust any of the BJP leaders. It has lost its face and credibility and it has, like the NC and Congress, become a tool of oppression. This is the general view in Jammu region.
The BJP has went back on its written commitment that it would obtain a proper order for establishing AIIMS in Jammu latest by July 20. Instead of fulfilling the urges of the people of Jammu region who voted for it in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014, it is indulging in cheap politics and shamelessly accusing the non-political AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC), an amalgam of over 130 non-political organizations, of taking recourse to confrontational politics to further its political agenda.
The BJP, which has betrayed and cheated the people of Jammu region and stabbed them behind the back, on Monday termed the ongoing movement in Jammu politically motivated and appealed to the ACC to suspend its agitation so that the general public and pilgrims are not put to inconvenience. Its charge that the ongoing movement in Jammu region is politically motivated is as ridiculous as it is provocative and detestable. It cannot accuse the ACC of any charge because it had respected its June 18 commitment and withdrew the 72-hour-long badh call and suspended chain hunger strike the same day sincerely believing that the BJP would keep its word. It was only after the BJP breached the trust that the ACC resumed its suspended agitation to teach the BJP a lesson.
It's true that the Congress and the NC, which all through betrayed the cause of Jammu and framed policies which were out and out Kashmir-centric, and even separatist friendly, have been taking political mileage out of the ongoing agitation in Jammu region. But it is the thankless and ungrateful BJP which has provided these two essentially anti-Jammu parties a god-sent opportunity to fish in the troubled waters and restore the political space they lost to the BJP in 2014. Credit goes to the committed non-political ACC leadership that it has not allowed the Congress and the NC to hijack the movement. Had the BJP respected its written commitment, there would not have been any movement in Jammu region and the parties like the Congress and the NC would not have been able to exploit the prevailing situation to their own advantage. The Congress, the NC and the Panthers Party are within their right to exploit the situation and snatch the BJP's political space.
There is still time for the BJP to fulfill its commitment. It is at the helm at the centre and it is also part of the Jammu & Kashmir Government. It has the power to do the needful. It has everything in its own hands. It can defuse the situation and it can also aggravate the situation. It can defuse the situation by fulfilling its commitment latest by July 30 and it will aggravate the situation if it fails to do so. The ball is in its own court. It's no use blaming the ACC or beating about the bush. It is only further aggravating the situation in Jammu and provoking the ACC by making utterly irresponsible statements. It should learn from the PDP, which on July 23 and 26 said that it was also for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu. |
