Farooq makes NC realise for membership drive | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 28: The National Conference was forced to go in for a membership drive by its president Farooq Abdullah after he saw party napping on this account. The former chief minister, who had ruled the state for a considerable time, convened a meeting for senior leadership and go ahead with it, till it becomes too late. Farooq Abdullah was furious to know that the party which suffered its historical defeat in back to elections, with even Farooq losing in parliamentary elections, that no effort has been made. "The BJP which has got the highest seats ever has started the mass contact programme and membership drive. The Congress which was also routed but still managed to do well in the valley has done the so and PDP is already in contact with the people, but why the party is still not realizing the impending political danger and not doing any thing about. The party has a cadre but unless its mobilized and reached out, it too can go away," Farooq had reportedly told the leaders. It was after this nudging by the former CM that the membership drive was started only on Monday, when other parties had already almost completed it. The Farooq Abdullah was particularly not happy with the manner and the way Omar Abdullah was handling the affairs and not concentrating on hitting the road. "Unlike the PDP and its leadership which hit the road after 2008 results and kept the government on tenterhooks it is not the same with the NC. Farooq knowing the pulse of the state is taking things in hands of the party but much can't be expected of him as his health is failing him but he is not expecting much from the Omar and that's the reason that he has even come with this idea when the other leaders of the party were living in their own shells," said the senior party leader. |
