HC directs Govt to pay Rs 2 lac to family of electrocution victim | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 28: The state high court on Tuesday directed government to pay within three weeks Rs 2 lakhs as compensation to a family against the death of their daughter due to electric shock. Hearing a petition filed by the parents of the 12-year-old girl who died while coming in contact with 6.6 KV HT line on 5 October 2011 at Wayan Pampore, a single bench of the court comprsing Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey also directed the concerned respondents to remain present if they failed to deposit the money. The court also directed government to ensure that effective measures are taken to protect the lives and properties of the citizens as regards the incidents taking place on account of non-maintenance or ill-maintenance of electric system. The court has also directed the concerned authorities to file an affidavit indicating therein the mechanism in place for preventing such incidents in the State. "Cases of a nature like the one protected in the instant petition should not ordinarily require the judicial intervention but should be dealt with at the administrative level only as it does not behave the authorities to humiliate or ill treat the people who have suffered because of their negligence only. Such a course leaves a very bad mark on the state of affairs," the court observed and directed listing of the case after three weeks. |
